Everyone knows eating healthy in the dining hall freshman year of college can be a challenge. Many hear the legend of the “freshman 15.” However, healthy eating can be possible when you know what to look for, and when to substitute in healthy options. Here are a few helpful tips for smart eating in the dining hall:
Remember, eating healthy doesn’t always have to be boring! There are always healthy options, just be conscious of what you’re consuming throughout the day. Even food that seem like a good option could contain high levels of sodium, sugar, fat or carbohydrates. If possible, check food labels- what you read may surprise you! Switching out unhealthy foods is a quick and easy way to avoid the freshman 15.
